Today we honor W.J.P. Thompson (1952 - 2023). "Paddy" to those who knew him, he was an influential falconer and conservationist in Canada, contributing not just to local clubs but to international peregrine recovery efforts as well. We hope you enjoy learning more about his life below.

A passionate falconer, Paddy played a central role in the success of falconry in Saskatchewan for over five decades. His involvement in falconry included serving as President of the Saskatchewan Falconry Association (SFA), Canadian Director of NAFA, and steward of the Saskatchewan Cooperative Falcon Project (SCFP). He mentored apprentices, organized conservation efforts, and was instrumental in the preservation of birds of prey, including the prairie falcon and peregrine falcon.

Paddy's personal falconry journey included a love of flying large falcons and grouse-hawking. He was also known for his fondness of black Labrador Retrievers and was an active member of the Saskatoon Retriever Club.

We hope you will join us in April for the Wall of Remembrance ceremony to honor Paddy and the other inductees. Get your tickets for the Spring Rendezvous today at https://falconry.org/visit/spring_rendezvous/
